Friends Helping Friends

Friends Helping Friends
Thank you for being Friends Helping Friends!

CTV’s Friends Helping Friends Food Drive, presented by Calbridge Homes, is back this April to help fill the shelves with nutritious food for families and individuals in crisis. Last year, with the support of the Calgary community, Friends Helping Friends raised $283,471 in food and funds for the food bank.

This year, you can support the campaign by donating non-perishable food items at any Sobeys, Safeway or Calbridge Homes’ Showhome locations until April 30, or donate funds online. New this year – you can donate $2 at the till at Safeway/Sobeys locations. Sobeys Inc. will contribute $1 for every donation made in store, up to $10,000 in Calgary. Stay tuned for special event day information!

About the campaign

Friends Helping Friends was born 24 years ago, by an individual at CTV Calgary who had a great idea. She was inspired by a food drive she saw on a trip to Seattle, where a local TV station was working with a grocery store to help their Food Bank at a slower time of year for donations. She brought the idea forward to the Calgary management, and Friends Helping Friends came to life. The campaign started as a one-day event that station employees looked forward to volunteering for. Now, Friends Helping Friends is an annual Spring-time food and fund drive engaging all Calgary Safeway and Sobeys locations, CTV staff, and dozens of Food Bank volunteers for the month of April. To date the campaign has raised over $2.5 million to help Calgarians in need.
