Calgary Food Bank Programs & Services
The Calgary Food Bank is the city’s first line of support for anyone facing a food emergency. Addressing the food is our first step in triaging their emergency, then we make critical connections for them with our community partners and their programs. Our relationships in the community and food support to many community partners means we can work collaboratively towards solving the problem of food insecurity in Calgary.
Emergency Food Hampers
The Emergency Food Hamper Program is at the core of our mission and what we do every day. The program is available to families and individuals who are experiencing food insecurity due to emergency situations. The food hampers contain seven days worth of nutritious food for each person.
Food link Program
The Food Link program provides food and supplies to qualified organizations so they can focus their resources on important program delivery dealing with root causes of food insecurity. It was created in co-operation with our food industry partners who were looking for ways to broaden their donations to other groups in Calgary. Since we have the community connections and the capacity to handle bulk food donations, it was a natural fit.
Weekends and more
When hundreds of students in Calgary were identified as chronically hungry, the Calgary Board of Education school-based partnership, Weekends and More, was created. Since 2014, students have received nutritious food hampers containing two to three days’ worth of food that discreetly fits into a backpack.
Hampers for the Homeless
The Hampers for the Homeless Program provides food to communities that work with those experiencing homelessness in Calgary. Hampers provide short-term relief of hunger with easy to open, ready to eat, shelf stable food for one to two days. A bulk food option is also available to partners who prefer to customize content for their client base.
Welcome Home Program
Food MOvement
Food rescue is the process of gleaning viable food so that it is not going to waste. Instead it’s redirected to support local communities. We directly collect from food industry and redirect food locally, provincially and even nationally. We are considered a critical food distribution hub and closely work with food industry to ensure food is delivered where it is needed most.
