1. Bare Bottoms Diaper Drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank

Calgary Food Bank Bare Bottoms Diaper Drive

You can drop off a package of new or opened diapers at any of the following locations throughout the month of May:

  • Calgary Food Bank - 5000 11 Street SE
  • West Coast Kids (North) - 11610 Sarcee Trail NW
  • West Coast Kids (South)- 130-71ST Avenue SE
  • Calgary Farmers' Market - 510 77th Avenue SE (Until May 10)
  • Glamorgan Bakery - #19, 3919 Richmond Road SW
  • Trico Centre - 11150 Bonaventure Dr SE
  • The Calgary Zoo - 1300 Zoo Rd NE (Mother's Day Weekend Only)
  • Shoppers Drug Mart - Unit 700, 151 Walden Gate SE
  • Stir Crazy - 3355 Sunridge Way NE
  • Vivo (Cardel Place) - 11950 Country Village Link NE
  • Mount Royal University Child Care Centre - 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW

A staggering 1 in 5 Canadian mothers struggle to provide diapers for their children. You can help! When visiting the Calgary Zoo this Mother’s Day weekend, drop off a donation of new and opened diaper packages to help families in temporary crisis. All donations are in support of the Calgary Food Bank. Contact us for more information or read our Diaper Need Fact Sheet. 

2. I Can for Kids

I Can for Kids is a food drive and fundraising campaign to support the Calgary Food Bank and the families and kids who need their help during the summer months.

The majority of low-income kids who depend on subsidized nutrition programs during the school year do not get a free meal during the summer. Missing out on necessary nutrition during the summer can put a child up to two months academically behind their peers at the start of the school year. 

This year, the Calgary Food Bank estimates it will need to feed over 8,000 kids during July and August.

Five Save On Foods locations in Calgary and Cochrane have generously partnered with I Can for Kids to fundraise and food raise, as we strive to reach our goal of providing 20,000 meals to hungry kids in our community this summer. Wood’s Homes has joined forces with the Calgary Food Bank to distribute the food packs to kids through their many incredible programs including their community outreach van, Crisis Response Team and Family Connections program. 

You can help put an end to summer childhood hunger in our community. Visit a Save On Foods location during June and July to purchase an I Can for Kids $5 prepack containing two kid friendly meals, or visit the I Can for Kids fundraising page to make a generous donation.

July

BD&P’s Put the Boots to Hunger is a campaign sponsored by Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP to raise food and funds for the Calgary Food Bank through the Stampede season. July and August are typically a slow season for donations and this campaign provides us with a solid supply of food for our clients, and funds that will help us through until Christmas. 

BD&P purchases a chuckwagon tarp and donates it to the Calgary Food Bank to use in a fundraising initiative where sponsors purchase the tarp for use on one of the 10 days of Stampede. Our 2015 chuckwagon driver for this year was chosen on March 19. Gary Gorst will be representing the Put the Boots to Hunger team in this year's chuckwagon races. 

Along with the funds raised from the tarp initiative, over 60 community partners host pancake breakfasts and BBQ's that raise food and money for the Calgary Food Bank. Last year, over $500,000 was raised and the campaign is now in its seventh year.
