Food Grants

Food Grants

Food Grants are a proposal system (similar to how you would apply for a funding grant) to aid organizations that require food for a specific project or event. Food Grants allow organizations to access food so their resources can be directed to connect with clients to move them toward a path of resiliency.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Your organization is looking for food or supplies for a limited event or project rather than an ongoing provision of food or supplies.
  • The project or event is serving a food-insecure population.
  • Work is being done on a long-term basis to address one or more root causes of food insecurity.
  • Must be a registered charity with the CRA and completes the Food Grant application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Food Grant and access to Food Link?

Food Grants are intended to be used for a short-term, one-time project or event while organizations accessing the Food Link Program are serving food and supplies to clients over a long-term time frame without a definitive end date.

If I have applied for a Food Grant previously and am running the same event again, do I need to re-apply?

Yes, Food Grants are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on the inventory that we have available at the time of your grant. As we are an organization reliant on donations, we cannot guarantee that there would be adequate food or supplies for a future event.

Can anyone apply for a Food Grant?

Unfortunately, no. Due to federal legislation organizations must be a registered charity with the CRA to apply for a Food Grant.

Can I order everything our organization needs for our project or event?

As the Calgary Food Bank relies on donations to supply our partners, you would have access to what we have in our donated inventory at the time you are placing your request. We may not have all the items you require in our inventory.
