Recently, it was determined that Winnipeg holds the Guinness World Record for most food collected in a single day. The Regina Food Bank’s spot in the Guinness Book was bumped by Winnipeg’s successful city wide food drive after raising 388,014 lbs of food.

In 2007 Calgary’s City-Wide Food Drive collected 362,771 lbs.

The ink on the Record Book’s page has not even dried yet and the Calgary Food Bank has sights set on making history while feeding those in need.

Calgary has been humbly sitting out of the spot light when it comes to what the residents of our city are great at; being generous and helpful to one another.

The 2008 City Wide Food Drive will be the event to highlight Calgary’s generosity on the global stage.

The goal on Saturday September 20th is to raise over 500,000 pounds of food in a single event. Not only will this induct the 2008 City Wide Food Drive into the Guinness Book of World Records, it will equal $1,000,000 worth of food to help those in need in Calgary. At a time of year when donations to the Calgary Food Bank have slowed but many families and individuals facing crisis are still in need of help, this event will assist those who are hungry for months to follow.
Together we can accomplish this!

In the days preceding the drive, approximately 7,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will leave a flyer and donation bag at the 360,000 Calgary homes. You can donate by simply placing non-perishable food items into the bag and placing it on your doorstep before 9:00 am on Saturday, September 20. Volunteers will pick up donations by 1:00 pm.

Corporate food and cash donations are also welcomed.

Let's set a record and feed those in need!
