Empty Bowl Benefit
Every year, thousands of Calgarians go without basic food items many of us take for granted: milk for breakfast, a hot bowl of soup for lunch and household staples like rice and pasta. The Calgary Food Bank, U B the Artist and Belgo Brasserie are teaming up for a creative solution to this problem. With your support, the 10th Annual Empty Bowl Benefit will put food in bowls that might otherwise go empty.
Auction
On Tuesday, April 13 celebrity painters (local media personalities, athletes, artists and more) brought their artistic abilities and passion to help feed those in need in Calgary. U B the Artist supplied each of our celebrities with a bisque bowl to paint with a design of their own choosing.
View the works of art and bid online for your favourites. This is when you’ll want to encourage all of your friends, family, and others to view the bowls and bid on their favourites.
Due to technical difficulties with our online auction partner on Monday, May 3, the auction of the bowls has been extended until 9am MDT on Wednesday, May 5.
When the auction closes at 9am on Wednesday, May 5, the highest bidder of each work of art will enjoy taking it home knowing that they will also be helping feed hungry Calgarians.
U B the Artist will also donate $1 to anyone who stops by their location in McKenzie Towne during the week of the auction to paint a piece of their own!

I am the chuckwagon driver for the Calgary Food Bank's "Put the Boots to Hunger" chuckwagon at the 2010 Rangeland Derby.
The winner of this bowl will be coming to watch meduring the Calgary Stampede with two tickets to the grandstand show and chuckwagon races, as well as admission to Stampede Park.

Primarily derived from a Chinese greeting at home when I was young. We posted a red paper with the wording "always full" on the big rice container. It means your basic need (food) is always met!
The six colours are the colours of the Omni logo and mean multiculturism and prosperity.
