Do I Qualify?
The Calgary Food Bank determines need based on income and situation and you will be asked some personal questions about both.
Be prepared to provide information about income and basic expenses - such as rent, mortgate, utilities, childcare and medical.
We know some questions may be difficult to answer. Every call is confidential and respectful.
You will encounter the same questions and process each time you call because we recognize that situations can change month to month.
What is in a Hamper?
Each hamper contains 7 days of nutritionally balanced groceries for each person in your household.
When can I call for a hamper?
The hamper request line is 403.253.2055.
The phone lines to request an emergency food hamper are open the following times:
Monday: 10:30 am to 7:15 pm
Tuesday: 1:00 pm to 7:15 pm
Wednesday: 1:00 pm to 7:15 pm
Thursday: 1:00 pm to 7:15 pm
Friday: Phone lines closed
*Please be patient with our Hamper Request Line volunteers when the phone lines are busy.
*The best time to call is between 3:30 and 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday.
How often can I use the Food Bank?
Calgarians in crisis may request an emergency food hamper up to 3 times in a 12 month period. You may qualify for additional hampers with a referral.
There must be 30 days between each hamper request.
What is a referral?
A referral comes from a social or community partner agency.The Hamper Request Line will provide you with more information and potential agency contacts.
When are the hamper distribution hours?
You must book a hamper before you pick-up during distribution hours.
