Pearl Malone: Canadian Citizen

Food Bank volunteer Pearl Malone is now a Canadian Citizen! Pearl, who was born in Ireland and grew up in England, became a Canadian just last week.

Pearl, a warehouse volunteer on Wednesdays, is known amicably by Volunteer Resources for being reliable, versatile in switching roles on a dime, and respectful to clients. She has been with the Food Bank since 2008.

“I’m not going anywhere!” said Pearl, who has been in Canada for almost 40 years, moving here as an adult in the 70’s.

She said she first started thinking about applying for citizenship, a two-year process for her, when she was visiting family in England and was told that with a Canadian passport, travel would be easier.

Pearl attended her citizenship ceremony on Thursday, December 5th. She said it was a very lovely ceremony, recounting shaking hands with a Mountie.

The Calgary Food Bank would like to congratulate Pearl on her new status as a Canadian! We are so proud and lucky to have you as a volunteer!
