Specialty Hampers

Specialty Hampers

Specialty Hampers help us meet the unique circumstances, diverse health and nutritional needs of our clients. Last year 6,478 clients with food allergies, specific dietary restrictions received 22,878 specialty hampers that ranged from celiac hampers, pantry hampers, hampers for the homeless, renal-care hampers, prenatal nutrition and infant hampers.

Infant Hampers

Infant and baby hampers include diapers, formula and baby food to ensure our youngest clients get what they need.

Prenatal Hampers

Expecting mothers have special dietary needs. These hampers provide extra milk and nutrients to new and expecting mothers.

Renal Hampers

In conjunction with Alberta Health Services, the Calgary Food Bank was the first food bank in Canada to create a specialty food hamper that provides the basics of a kidney-conscious diet specifically for clients with chronic renal issues.

It’s no surprise that the chronically ill are often the most food insecure in our community. Because food insecurity is inadequate or unstable access to nutritious food, often due to lack of income, Canadians who are moderately to severely food insecure are more likely to report chronic health problems.

Renal Hampers provide healthy, low in sodium food options while eliminating foods with high potassium as well as minimal processed foods.

"Welcome Home" Hampers

Early in 2011, the Calgary Food Bank and Community Kitchens Calgary partnered up to create Welcome Home Hamper Program to support newly housed Calgarians. These hampers provide specialized items to Calgarians transitioning from the street living to a home of their own. Welcome Home clients are referred to the program by a partner agency working with homeless individuals and families.

The program provides supplies that a household requires for the first month of residency, including cleaning supplies, hygiene items like soaps and shampoo as well as miscellaneous baking ingredients.
