Hampers for the Homeless
Homelessness puts a strain on both taxpayers and various social agencies costing the Canadian economy $7 billion annually* due to the cost of emergency shelters, social services, health care, and corrections. (Source: The Homeless Hub).
Food is a catalyst to supporting anyone in need and this hamper program gives the 17 homeless serving agencies a starting point for conversation with those in crisis.
Each week more than 300 hampers for the homeless are distributed through our community partners and provide two to three days of food for 15,981 Calgarians with inadequate shelter. Hampers include nutritionally complete foods and ready-to-eat foods (pull-tab cans, heat and serve foods, or require only boiled water).
