It is hard to believe another year has passed and we are approaching the holiday season again. Unfortunately, for some the holidays are not a festive time. When you are unable to afford the trimmings for a feast, you do not invite friends over for a meal and can easily become isolated at a time of year when you should be surrounded by loved ones.
Sadly, many Calgarians continue to struggle and the demand for emergency food support is still at an all-time high. This past year there was an 8% increase in client visits, representing more than 184,078 lives that were affected. Over 68,000 emergency hampers were distributed, which translates to 3.5 million meals for Calgarians in crisis. But beyond the numbers, your support makes an impact on our clients’ lives every day.
I recently had to use the food bank. While I have always donated, I never used the Calgary Food Bank …. I have hope because of the food bank and I’m no longer ashamed at needing it because I am doing whatever it takes to get on my feet and care for my kids. Donate to it, see it, volunteer and hope you never need it but if you do, know it’s there and it is beyond what you can imagine in the help it provides. You honestly have no idea how far your donation goes until you see the food bank in operation firsthand or need it!”A former client
Because of your generosity, you enable us to keep pace and to support all who come through our doors. ‘Community owned, community supported’ is not a trite description, it is a truth and speaks to the mind-boggling efforts of the donors and volunteers at the Calgary Food Bank.
On behalf of our clients, thank you!
