Thank you YYC! Your support for our neighbours to the North has been amazing!
The Calgary Food Bank is proud to be working with generous donors and the network of food banks in Alberta (through Alberta Food Banks), to meet the needs of those forced from their homes by the fires raging in Northern Alberta. Stephanie Rigby, executive director of Alberta Food Banks, has stated, “We are working to ensure food deliveries are placed when and where needed to prevent unnecessary waste”. Food banks most in need of support through the network currently are Athabasca, Boyle and Lac La Biche. Food banks in St. Albert, Leduc, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan and Spruce Grove are also assisting smaller food banks experiencing additional demand from evacuees and the association will ensure they are re-stocked to keep up with local needs.
We are happy to report that current supplies are sufficient to cover immediate needs, but we also know that may change in the coming weeks. The need is far from over as families return home to rebuild and so we are continuing to collect and store designated donations of food and funds. We are so grateful for this outpouring of support and ask those who want to help to check for daily updates at http://www.calgaryfoodbank.com/fort-mcmurray-fire-response
