Put the Boots to Hunger 2015: Day Nine

On Friday and Saturday, the 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off took place at the Calgary Farmers’ Market. Six amazing vendors went head-to-head over who makes the best darn chili in the city:

  • Big T’s Smokehouse
  • Frank & Mabel’s
  • Fresh Delicious
  • Stock and Sauce Co.
  • Shef’s Fiery Kitchen
  • Wild Fire Wings

Patrons got a chance to taste-test the chili creations and with one donation to the Calgary Food Bank, gave them voting rights for their favourite!

After two days of voting, the winner was Big T’s Smokehouse with their deliciously spicy chili creation!

Congratulation to Big T’s and thank you to everyone who voted and donated! And special thanks to the Farmers’ Market for hosting the cook off for another year! It’s always an event we look forward to during Stampede.

Saturday night was a special night at the chuckwagons for a few reasons! Not only did our fabulously talented chuckwagon driver — Gary Gorst — make it to the semifinals, but he raced in the 7th heat against his son, Logan Gorst!
The two have raced together before (often getting first and second respectively), but this was the first time in Stampede 2015 they faced off for the big win. Gary said he looks forward to the racing against him, but he still has his eye on the prize! “When that horn goes, son, grandson… Don’t matter, it’s go time,” he said.   RESULTS:

Gorst was just shy of making the finals. He came in 5th and the finals consist of the top four drivers. Even so, we are so incredibly proud of Gary Gorst and all the barn tours, laughs and even dances we got from him. What an amazing driver and all-around amazing person. Thank you Gary for Putting the Boots to Hunger!
