Put the Boots to Hunger 2015: Day Five

What an amazing five days we have had, filled with an abundance of special events – BBQ’s, Breaky’s, and chuckwagons, all in support of ourPut the Boots to Hunger campaign.

We look forward to what the next five days bring, with even more events happening as we near the end of the Calgary Stampede this Sunday. We can’t thank Calgarians enough for their endless support and generosity during the Stampede season.

We stopped in at Devon Energy this afternoon and were blown away by the amount of donations the team collected for our Put the Boots to Hunger campaign.

It was pretty exciting to hear the unique ways Devon got all of their staff involved to help their community. They had three options: donating non-perishables, volunteering at different Stampede events or running in the Angus Cattle Run, this Friday. In total, 18 floors of offices at the building donated over 450 pounds of food, with floor 24 pulling in the most donations at 80 pounds!

Today was the first of two lunch events hosted by Robert Half Management Resources during Stampede, where all food and funds are donated to the Put the Boots to Hunger campaign.

Staff and clients enjoyed great food, drinks and laughter, and to top it off a lovely cowboy was giving out free lessons on how to rope! If that doesn’t get you in the Stampede spirit, we don’t know what will. Yahoo!

It’s half way through the greatest outdoor show on earth and our driver, Gary Gorst is doing phenomenal, to say the least.

Day one he came out strong and took first in his heat and 6th overall. As of day four of the chuckwagon races, Gary has positioned himself in the top ten out of 36 racers. His son, Logan Gorst is right up there with him and it may be a family race to the finish to see who takes the top spot!

Last night, our tarp sponsor Gibson Energy was given a special carrot treat to feed to the horses before their big race. Let’s just say, some of the crew were happier than others to offer their hand out to be chomped at! It could have been the extra love, or the great weather last night because Gary came second in his heat with an oustanding time of 1:12:33!
