Calgary Food Bank client shares kitchen before and after

One of our clients shared his before and after kitchen experience with Reddit immediately following his return from picking up his Emergency Food Hamper.

It’s a perfect visualization of what a hungry kitchen looks like, not to mention the quality and quantity of food a hungry Calgarians actually receive from us when they pick up from our warehouse.

BEFORE

“I lost my job with no notice and no severance pay at the beginning of the pay period. My wife can’t work. All our savings went to paying the rent and bills. This is what we were left with. Mmm, ketchup for dinner.”

AFTER

Client Fridge

“I’ve never been to the food bank before and I was apprehensive about going. Things have never been this bad for me until now. I didn’t expect it to be as friendly and supportive as it was – or as big. I’d say at least twenty different staff members and volunteers packed food into our crates for us.”

“Most of this is bread and potatoes. They gave us a lot of potatoes, there’s another 10 lbs of them in a bag under the cabinet.”

“The one thing that we did have stocked up was ramen and Campbell’s tomato soup. It makes a snack but it gets old really fast.”

“I couldn’t get over how much candy and snack food they gave us. We don’t just have food to eat now, we have food to enjoy and treat ourselves with.”

Final Thoughts

Client Fridge

“It took over an hour to get this home on three buses in -12 C weather. I think it was worth it.”
